The School District of La Farge is seeking a part time special education paraeducator for grades 6 - 12 to begin with the 2019-2020 school year.
Desired hours: 8:15 - 2:15 Monday - Friday.
This is a certified position. Certified Teacher Assistant positions require a Special Education Program Aide License from the Department of Public Instruction
Position responsibilities to include:
Assists individual students or small groups to reinforce learning activities
Assists with the supervision of students during classroom and other activities including field trips.
Carry out individualized areas of IEP's and behavior plans as developed and directed by teacher.
Nurture independent behavior of students.
Follow through on transfer of OT/PT and Speech/Language skills to the daily routine.
Help with generalized classroom tasks in the regular classroom and the special education resource room.
Help with individual, small group, and large group activities--both instructional and non-instructional in both regular and special education classroom environments.
Provides supervision and assistance with students on community job sites.
Assist students with bathroom/hygiene needs and other self-care routines.
Assist students at breakfast/lunch/other eating times.
Assist students in specially designed physical education program
Models conversation, manners, cleanup activities, listening, and everyday interactions for the purpose of demonstrating appropriate social behavior in a culturally sensitive manner.
Documents student’s daily activities (e.g. behavior, assignment completion, etc.) for the purpose of completing daily logs
Assists classroom teachers with maintaining student records/files
Performs clerical duties as assigned that relate to specific student needs.
Help with other generalized classroom tasks as assigned.
By Federal law, this position requires the candidate to have a high school diploma in addition to meeting "highly qualified" standards of one of the following:
- Two years or more of study at an institute of higher education (completion of 48 semester hours or equivalent of trimester hours), or
- Associate or higher degree, or
Passing a test to demonstrate the knowledge of and ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing, and mathematics.
• Experience with students with special education needs.
• Certification in adult/child CPR and First Aid required - will train to upgrade skills if needed.
• CPI certification – will train to upgrade skills if needed.
