The School District of La Farge is seeking a full time Facility Technician to join our Facilities & Grounds Team.

The technician will perform custodial duties along with general maintenance of facilities, grounds, and equipment, in order to provide a clean, orderly, and safe environment for our students, staff, visitors, and guests. Applicants who are open to a gradual transition into a management position are desired.

Candidates must be able to work flexible hours within 1st/2nd shift during the school year (September - May), and 1st shift (6am - 2:30pm) during the summer months (June - August) and school breaks, along with the ability to work occasional weekends and on-call hours. 

Reliability, dependability, and punctuality are expected.

Qualified candidates will have:

  • High school degree / GED, and two years of progressive occupational experience or directly related Vocational Degree and one year of progressive occupational experience.

  • This position requires unrestricted physical mobility on a regular and consistent basis for the majority of the workday. Must be capable of continuously standing, walking, stair climbing, reaching, handling and gripping without difficulty, repetitive movement of both hands and arms, as well as frequent lifting and moving items with a maximum weight of 80 lbs a short distance, and pushing or pulling heavier items with the use of a cart or dolly.

  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Some specific demonstrable knowledge or experience with regard to entry-level facilities & grounds maintenance, cleaning and related equipment.

  • Must be able to work independently, effectively manage time and meet all specified deadlines

  • Ability to use equipment and hand tools such as ladders, shovels, etc

  • Ability to operate indoor machinery and power tools such as floor cleaning machine, and outdoor machinery such as tractor, snowblower, riding lawn mower, weed eater, power washer, etc.

  • Ability to work occasional weekends/on call hours

  • Tolerance for and ability to work with chemicals, disinfectants, waxes, etc

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with staff, contractors, students, visitors and peers

  • Basic computer skills

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check

Preferred candidates will have:

  • Experience with facility and grounds maintenance in a high capacity building environment (school, business, nursing home, etc)

  • Knowledge of/experience with general maintenance work, including minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, and painting.

The custodian will perform janitorial duties in order to provide a clean, orderly, and safe environment for our students, staff, visitors, and guests. 

Candidates must be able to work flexible hours within 1st/2nd shift during the school year (September - May), and 1st shift (6am - 2:30pm) during the summer months (June - August) and school breaks, along with the ability to work occasional weekends and on-call hours.

Essential Functions:

  • Strives constantly to promote the safety, health, and comfort of the students, community, and staff.

  • Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.

  • Sweeps classrooms and dusts furniture.

  • Cleans corridors after school.

  • Scrubs, hoses down, and disinfects toilet floors, and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains.

  • Washes all windows on both the inside and outside.

  • Keeps the grounds free from rubbish.

  • Performs such yard keeping chores as grass cutting, tree trimming, and the like, as necessary, to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.

  • Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation through the use of power floor equipment.

  • Makes such minor building repairs as he/she is assigned.

  • Reports major repairs needed promptly to the Facilities Manager.

  • Reports immediately to the lead custodian or head custodian any damage to school property.

  • Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.

  • Completes all tasks as outlined in the Daily Cleaning Program developed for each building.

  • Properly handles and discards all recyclable materials.

  • Shovels and sands walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps, as appropriate.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned or required.

  • Communicates effectively and in a timely manner with all stakeholders, through oral, written, and electronic means.
